You may well have noticed that amongst the rioting and wailing on the EVE O forums about CCPs apparent abandonment of the game we all love the community is ever ready to share in the pain and tears of its fellow pilots and this week is no exception.
Our hapless victim this time is “aystra” whose kestrel was lost with all hands and her cargo of 74 Plex Codes in Jita.
Here though is something of a moral quandary. A plex code is an in game item, created by converting a 30 day game time code (purchased from CCP) into a plex. Someone, somewhere, paid CPP ‘real life’ money for these codes at some stage at $17.50 per card. So this means that CCP has profited to the tune of around $1,294 without having to provide any ‘game time’ to anyone.
As a In Game Item it is of course trade able to other players and a 30 day card has a rough market value of about 300mil ISK. In this way we can see that Aystra lost either around 22billion ISK, OR 2,220 days in EVE (just over 6 years worth of game time).
Plenty of players have lost equivalent cargos or expensively fitted ships in the past – and this incident is no different.
2K Games have announced that a playable demo of Mafia II is now available worldwide for PC via Steam. The Mafia II demo invites gamers to dive into the "Buzzsaw" level, where Vito and his buddies, Joe and Henry, are sent to take out a mobster known as "The Fat Man". While the epic game spans two decades, the Buzzsaw demo takes place during the summer of the '50s – a time considered the "Birth of Cool", and with it, rock 'n' roll, hot rods, and rebellious attitudes.
Like it or loathe it, EVE Online's infamous fan-run Hulkageddon event is back with its teeth sharpened. During this unofficial week and a half of torture, some of the game's more vicious players band together with one common goal -- the complete eradication of mining ships. Organised by pirate Helicity Boson back in October 2009, the first event was met with strong vocal opposition by miners. Cries that the unofficial event sanctioned griefing and calls for Helicity to be banned flooded the forums, sparking intense debate into what is and isn't acceptable in the sandbox.
Despite opposition, the event made a return early this year, with January's Hulkageddon II destroying a record 278 billion ISK in mining barges and exhumers. With Hulkageddon III scheduled to begin next week on the 9th of July, continuing until July 18th, miners across EVE are in for a rough time. If January's event is any indication, even pilots in high security space aren't safe from attack. Suicide tactics have always been a popular way to kill barges, with packs of destroyers able to kill a Hulk before CONCORD arrive.

City Interactive have announced that the stealth based first person shooter Sniper: Ghost Warrior has reached Gold status and will be available on June 29, 2010, for PC and Xbox 360.

Bohemia Interactive have released a new trailer for its new stand-alone, expansion pack, ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead, due for release on June 29th. Operation Arrowhead is a standalone expansion pack which promises to deliver realistic combat simulation experience in a modern day setting with unprecedented freedom of movement, actions and tactics. Players will enlist into various roles within the US Army, from basic infantrymen, through special operatives, to pilots and tank crew.
